After the wedding, they still do not have sex and after a while they part ways. They later start dating again, Trey agrees to fix his erection problem and they are able to have regular sex. After some time, Charlotte discovers that she is unable to conceive.

Charlotte and Trey try IVF, but Trey, after initially agreeing to it, ends up deciding he doesn't feel ready for kids. They get divorced due to different goals in marriage.
Trey makes Charlotte very happy by stopping in front of Tiffany & Co. while walking and suggesting that they look for "the most beautiful engagement ring they have".
Charlotte proposes marriage to Trey and casually and characteristically replies, "Okay." Charlotte was furious at this response because it was unlikely to be the proposal of her dreams - the next day, she informs Carrie that she proposed to herself.
Trey and Charlotte meet after Charlotte decides to meet her husband the following year. Their first encounter is one in which he proves to be her knight in shining armor: after a terrible date, Charlotte is almost run over by his taxi. Trey gets out of the cab to help her, and it is implied that they fell in "love at first sight". Charlotte thinks Trey is the perfect boyfriend and husband candidate. Just a month after they met, Charlotte is looking forward to his proposal.

She tries to keep their relationship strictly sexual, but soon becomes emotionally attached due to Harry's kindness, quick wits, and Harry's apparent love for her. Initially, she tries to change him so that he is more in line with her image of an ideal man, but these attempts cause Harry suffering, and Charlotte understands their futility and gradually accepts Harry for who he is.

Charlotte's demands to marry her immediately shock Harry by the fact that, in his opinion, Charlotte is not thinking about him, and he breaks up with her.
