Throughout the series, the character's real name is not revealed - Carrie calls him "The Man of Her Dreams" - only at the end of the final episode do viewers find out that his name is John, the surname Preston is indicated only in the feature film.
In the first movie, after 10 years of dating and breaking up, Carrie and John decide to get married. But John disrupts the wedding, and it is postponed for several months. But in the end they get married and get their happily ever after?

Some time later, Bradshaw learns that Aidan is opening a bar with Miranda's ex-boyfriend, Steve. Arriving at the opening, Carrie notes that she still has feelings for the past. She invites Aidan to get together, to which he overreacts, but eventually agrees to try again.

Some time later, Carrie meets Berger at an acquaintance's wedding, where she learns that Berger has broken up with his girlfriend. It seems that nothing prevents them from being together now, but Carrie understands that Jack can be vulnerable and insecure, especially after the publishing house refused to print his new book.
After a fairly brief romance, and even a temporary breakup, Jack sneaks out of Carrie after a night of reconciliation, leaving a sticker with an apology and an admission that he can't be with her. Carrie is completely confused.

However, even there she does not find happiness: after meeting with her ex-wife Alexandra, who regretted that she was in the background in Alec's life (the first was his work), Carrie understands that the same thing happens in their relationship - she left her friends, home and work for him, and Alexander disappears for days in gallery.
